SMALLVILLE'S ROBIN HOOD
Originally a DC comics superhero, Green Arrow was created way back in 1941 by Mort Weisinger and George Papp. Dressed as Robin Hood, the character was developed as archer and vigilante who invents arrows with special functions.
Similarly to Batman, the man behind the mask, Oliver Queen is a billionaire playboy who does not posses any special powers, but rather uses specially developed equipment, has a teenage sidekick (Speedy, whom we will not see on 'Smallville') and fights a clown-like archfoe called Bull's-Eye. The character became more significant in the 1960s when he evolved into a crusader for the poor and the underprivileged.
On tonight's episode of "Smallville" (The CW, 8/7c), Lois Lane (Erica Durance) who has already met the womanizing Oliver Queen, witnesses as the Green Arrow steals Martha Kent's (Annette O'Toole) rare diamond necklace off her neck. Clark Kent (Tom Welling) who investigates the case learns that Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow and that he steals from the rich so he could give to the poor.
