Top-100 TV Shows (through 10/28/07)

It's Wednesday and that means it's time to check how your show is standing on the latest top-100 chart of shows airing on broadcast television. Although we still have the same winner, the gap between #1 and #2 is getting smaller and smaller. Can "Dancing with the Stars" become the new #1 show in America?

Last week the gap between CSI and "Dancing with the Stars" was 2.35 million viewers. This week the gap is down to only 800,000 viewers. Of course, ABC's dancing contest will go off air during the winter, but it would be great to see something else on top other than 7-year old "CSI" at least for a week before the end of November sweeps.

Although "Private Practice" remains in the top-20 (down a notch to #19), this fall's other big freshman "hit" "The Bionic Woman" continues to slide, down 3 places to #28. The show's current season average is much higher than last 2 weeks' ratings, so expect that decline to continue.

Finally, about 44 million people on average watch the 5 broadcast networks combined, that's about 9 million viewers each. Which is perhaps why shows that get about 8-10 million people may now be considered a modest hit (unless they completely butcher their lead-in audience, of course).

Top-100 TV Shows (through 10/21/07)

The latest top-100 chart for all shows airing on broadcast television for the period September 24 - October 21 (the first 4 weeks of the official TV season) is here and as expected - most of the freshman series have gone down. Christina Applegate, on the other hand, has plenty to smile about as her new sitcom "Samantha Who?" makes a new entry all the way at #13.

This fall's hottest new drama "Private Practice" stays put at #18, but its timeslot competitor "The Bionic Woman" continues its decline by falling 2 places to #25. As last week's episode averaged only 8.5 million viewers, unless those ratings improve, expect the NBC drama to fall out of the top-40 before Christmas.

The #1 program in America is still "CSI;" the top-rated ABC show is "Dancing with the Stars" (#2); the most watched FOX show is "House" (#4); while the hottest NBC show is "Sunday Night Football" (#11). The ratings-challenged Peacock network has only two entries in the top-20. "Smallville" is the top CW show (#84).

Top-100 Shows This Season

How is your favorite show doing in the ratings this year compared to the other 99 shows airing on network TV? Take a look at the top-100 chart which ranks shows by average ratings for the past 3 weeks of the season (September 24-October 14).

The highest rated new show this season is ABC's "Private Practice" which is also the only freshman series to crack the top-20.

CBS still dominates the top-10 with 4 crime procedurals including the #1 show in America "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

The hottest comedy is still CBS' "Two and a Half Men" coming in an #17, although this may change following the premiere of ABC's "Samantha Who."

The hottest new NBC show is "The Bionic Woman" at #23; the highest rated new CBS show is "Cane" at #32; and the top new FOX show is "Back to You" (#62).

The CW's strongest shows are "America's Top Model" (#82) and "Smallville" (#83). The netlet's lackluster Sunday night magazines "CW Now" and "Online Nation" did not even make it to the top-100.
