"Dancing with the Stars" Season 6 Starts Tonight

The 6th season of ABC's increasingly popular (watch out "American Idol"!) celebrity contest "Dancing with the Stars" will trip the light fantastic tonight with the first part of a two-night premiere. Men dance tonight, ladies take over tomorrow night at 8/7c. Here's a preview from "Good Morning America" along with promo stills of the new cast.

AUGUST 30, 2007: If someone had asked me just 2 days ago what show would the hottest man on television be on, I would have never guessed the answer. Sorry, Wenty, Milo and Foxy, but "Dancing with the Stars" has just given us one solid reason not to mess with the clicker and keep that tube tuned to ABC. The images are mainly LQ or MQ, but I hope the quantity makes up for it. Besides, you can bet your behind you'll be seeing plenty more of Albert this fall on this blog.

Helio Castroneves Wins "Dancing with the Stars"

"It's not only about dancing, you know? It's about popularity," a confident race-car driver Helio Castroneves said last night after America snubbed Spice-Girl Mel B and decided that he be given the mirrorball trophy for winning the latest cycle of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

Helio's partner Julianne Hough may have had a hand in his victory - she had also won last season's competition, with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

Castroneves is the fourth man in a row to win the competition - Kelly Monaco was the show's only female winner in the first season in 2005.

Marie Osmond was the first finalist to be eliminated on Tuesday following a critically-panned performance.

Osmond who infamously fainted during a live broadcast may have stayed longer in the competition as she had, like fellow contestant Jane Seymour, endured the death of a parent.

Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, were the highest-scoring couple throughout the blockbuster show's 5th season.

ABC kicks off a new season of "Dancing with the Stars" with the biggest cast yet in less than 2 weeks, so take a look at who's tripping the light fantastic and who they'll be doing it with.


MELANIE BROWN is partnered with MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY, who returns for his fourth season.



SABRINA BRYAN is partnered with newcomer MARK BALLAS.





HELIO CASTRONEVES teams with reigning champ JULIANNE HOUGH, who returns for her sophomore season.



MARK CUBAN is partnered with KYM JOHNSON, who returns for her third season.




JENNIE GARTH whose partner is newcomer DEREK HOUGH, brother of Season Four winner Julianne Hough.



JOSIE MARAN is paired with Season One winner ALEC MAZO, who makes his third appearance.



CAMERON MATHISON is partnered with EDYTA SLIWINSKA, the only professional dancer to appear in all five seasons.



FLOYD MAYWEATHER teams with KARINA SMIRNOFF, who returns for her third season.




WAYNE NEWTON is partnered with two-time champ CHERYL BURKE.




MARIE OSMOND will be led by JONATHAN ROBERTS, who returns for his fourth season.




ALBERT REED teams up with ANNA TREBUNSKAYA, who returns for her second season.




JANE SEYMOUR is paired with TONY DOVOLANI, who returns for his fourth season.



The new season begins with two 90-minute performance episodes (September 24 and 25, 8:00-9:30 p.m.), followed by the season's first results show on Wednesday, September 26, 8:00-9:00 p.m.). Women will dance on Monday and men take their turn on Tuesday.
