Ratings: FOX's "Bones" Wins

Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz successfully returned to FOX Wednesdays last night with a London-based big-budgeted 4th season opener of "Bones" helping the network win the night among adults 18-49.

The 2-hour episode scored an average of 9.69 million viewers, peaking with 10.22 million viewers in the second hour.

Elsewhere, The CW launched a new cycle of its hit reality contest "America's Next Top Model" featuring a transgendered contestant. The 2-hour season premiere scored 3.48 million viewers, down from 3.80 million who tuned into the February 20 premiere of the previous cycle.

The audience erosion is more visible in comparison with the launch of the fall 2007 cycle - September 19, 2007 premiere generated 5.15 million viewers.

"Bones" Season 4 Premiere Filming in London

For the first time ever, the cast and producers of FOX's "Bones" crossed the pond last month to shoot at an international location. The 2-hour September 3 season 4 premiere will be titled "The Yanks in the UK" and set in London.


Partners Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) make the trip from Washington, DC, to Britain where Brennan is guest-lecturing at Oxford University and Booth speaking at Scotland Yard.



They are however asked by local officials to lend their expertise to a high-profile murder investigation involving a young British heiress. The girl was yanked from The Thames in her Range Rover.



Filming began on Saturday, June 14. Shooting at various locations in and around London, including the Thames River, Oxford University and Canary Wharf will take several weeks.

New "Bones" in February? (Spoilers)

Although 3 additional episodes of FOX's "Bones" have been filmed, the fans may not be able to see them before the end of February. The network is however expected to continue with repeats as the show moves to a new timeslot in January.

FOX had planned to move "Bones" to its Friday night "death zone" several times, but it appears it may finally happen because of the writers' strike.

The show moves to Friday at 8:00pm on January 4. According to the most recent press release, however, the first all-new episode "The Baby in the Bough" is scheduled for February 22.

That same night, FOX will premiere the first of 7 episodes of its midseason drama "New Amsterdam" in the 9:00pm timeslot.



The series tells the story of a brilliant and enigmatic New York homicide detective, John Amsterdam (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who has a profound secret: He is immortal, and will not age until he meets his one true love.

The show was originally supposed to premiere in the fall, but FOX was allegedly not very happy with early episodes.

Finally, here are stills and spoilers from the "Baby in the Bough" episode: Booth and Brennan investigate the scene where a car was run off the road and the victim's body deliberately burned beyond recognition.



When the team hears muffled whimpering during the site investigation, they find the victim's baby miraculously perched in a tree above the scene of the crash.

The team designates Brennan as the infant's caretaker, but when the baby swallows a key piece of evidence, they question her nurturing skills.



The team soon identifies the victim as a laborer who worked in a tire-recycling factory in a small, impoverished town in Virginia, and Brennan and Booth venture out to investigate who might have wanted her dead.

Their suspicions range from her deadbeat husband to the impecunious habitants of her town. Meanwhile, the team is fascinated by the presence of a baby in the lab and its affinity for Brennan.

"Bones" Spoilers #3.10 "The Santa in the Slush" Booth and Brennan Kiss!

I don't usually do "Bones" previews on this blog, but since tomorrow night's episode "The Santa in the Slush" will be the one the fans of the FOX drama will be talking about for quite some time, I might as well go for the ride. Ryan O'Neal guest stars in this Christmas-themed episode. More pics and spoilers, after the jump.

The body of a man with a white beard and a tailor-made Santa costume is discovered in the sewer near a D.C. mall just three days before Christmas.

As the team gathers forensic evidence, the victim seems to match the legend more closely each step of the way.

Booth and Brennan discover the man, whose legal name was Kristopher Kringle, was a well respected Santa Claus impersonator, employed by a local "Rent-A-Santa" business.

When Booth and Brennan inspect Kris' apartment, not only do they find his place decked out with holiday cheer, but they also find thousands of dollars stashed in a dresser drawer.

As Christmas Day approaches, the Jeffersonian team works to find out who would have wanted this true-to-myth Santa dead.

Meanwhile, Brennan visits her father in jail and plots a not-so-traditional Christmas reunion, and Booth and Brennan find themselves in close quarters with the mistletoe just overhead.

John Francis Daley guest stars as Dr. Lance Sweets and Ryan O'Neal guest stars as Max Keenan.
