Reader Survey Results

The results are in! Check them out, after the jump.

First, I would like to say how overwhelmed I am by the volume of interest to participate in the survey.

I can't thank you enough for helping me out when it seemed I had reached a crossroad, unsure how to proceed.

There were some responses I was surprised by, there were some issues I had already suspected. All in all - your feedback was priceless.

Special gratitude goes for answering a number of personal questions; your responses and demo statistics will be crucial for future advertising agreements.

On to the results.

CONTENT:

It is very difficult to single out any part of the content (TV news, spoilers, recaps, previews, videos, celebrity news, etc.) as the most or the least popular. They all appear to be equally appealing.

UPDATE FREQUENCY:

Obviously, the greatest concern remains with the frequency of updates. The majority of you would prefer to see the updates on weekdays, although some had even said they wouldn't mind the blog being updated only 2-3 times per week, as long as there was some consistency.

A select few however can't have enough updates, and want them around the clock, including weekends. The blog being my hobby, I certainly can't commit to any full-time schedules, but I will do my best to focus my efforts on the working week and some kind of consistency which is crucial in blog success.

DESIGN:

I was somewhat surprised (and relieved) to hear that most of you are happy with the blog design. I had thought many of you would find it tedious and prefer to see something more lively and colorful.

But over 90% of you believe "it's not broken" and therefore "no need to fix it", urging me to keep it the way it is, although some did suggest a small update. Those of you who dislike it, really seem to hate it with a passion, though. :)

CELEBRITY COVERAGE:

As far as the celebrities are concerned, there have been many suggestions what people to cover more frequently. Most of you however didn't have a suggestion and none of the names mentioned were predominant choices.

On the flip side, most of you don't seem to be getting tired of any celebrities already being covered by the blog. Several names however did pop up repeatedly, namely Eva Longoria Parker, the cast of "Gossip Girl" and Katherine Heigl.

MOVIE NEWS & NON-TV COVERAGE:

The question concerning the inclusion of non-TV celebrities like Britney, the Beckhams or Brangelina and adding movie news was a really tricky one. There was a clear division on this one - about half of you wouldn't mind expanding the blog focus at all. The other half however said a very loud and categorical: NO!

Some of you who have visited the blog for over a year, may remember that last summer I had already tried to include more non-TV coverage. The results were mixed and by the time the new TV season began, I ran out of time to focus on movies, because there was so much to cover on TV.

A number of you believe the blog focus is clear: television and it should remain that way as there are too many entertainment blogs out there already covering Hollywood A-listers and tabloid trainwrecks. I have not made a final decision on this, so I'll give movie news and A-listers another try over the summer and we'll see how it goes.

TV SHOWS:

There have been a few suggestions for shows currently not covered by the blog, but the vast majority of you is happy with the current show line-up and don't need to see any changes.

Some of the shows suggested were crime procedurals and cable shows, but there wasn't a single show suggested repeatedly by the majority of respondents.

Given Televisionista's focus on female-centric and gay-friendly serialized dramas (with several notable exceptions like "24"), I will simply add a couple of new shows from the networks' fall line-up that would fit into the current roster.

LOADING TIME:

I was very happy to hear that over 97% of people who filled in the survey, did not have any difficulties loading the blog in their browsers.

In fact, a couple of people even said Televisionista is one of the fastest loading blogs they visit. Go figure.

For this reason, even if I do give the blog design a tiny facelift in September, I'll make sure I stay away from any elements that might increase the loading time.

COMMENT MODERATION:

The majority of you don't have any problems with comments moderation. You are all very well aware that some people in cyberspace simply can not be trusted as several incidents last year confirmed.

Although I am on one hand aware of the fact that comment moderation prevents some people from leaving any comments at all and therefore limits discussion on the blog, I would prefer to keep things under control.

Heated e-fights and throwing around vulgarities / insults certainly needs to be nipped in the bud.

NAVIGATION:

I was very happy to hear that, again apart from a select few, hundreds of you who responded to this survey did not have any problems with navigation on the site.

You may have already noticed I have now centered the available pull-down menu, while merging it with the second one which was rather unnecessary.

Also, new links should make it easier to subsrcibe to Televisionista feeds by email or on your cell phone.

SUBSCRIPTION:

Speaking of feeds, there have been several suggestions concerning the RSS as well as email subscription. For this reason, I decided to cut those lengthy feed posts to teasers (similar to those you see if you visit the homepage).

That should keep subscription emails shorter and major spoilers invisible. You will however need to click on the headlines that attract your attention and visit the website if you wish to read the rest of the story.

GUEST BLOGGERS:

Apart from several readers who, again said a very loud "hell, no!" :), most of you are open to guest bloggers appearing on Televisionista with their input.

Many of you however believe they should maintain the voice of the blog and adhere to the type of coverage you are used to seeing.

This was simply an idea I had to add content and variety to the blog, but I still have to think it through and see what would be the best way to execute it.

One of the possibilities is to have different people recapping shows the morning after they air.

I normally find this very challenging, as I tend to spend too much time producing such posts, and if I'm supposed to recap 2-3 shows, plus come up with the regular coverage, it's too much for me to handle, as I realized last fall.



Finally, allow me to repeat how very helpful you have been with the survey and thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy schedules to respond to my questions and help me produce a better blog in the future.
