Kristin Kreuk & Michael Rosenbaum to Leave "Smallville"

"Smallville" may have just been renewed for an 8th season, but two of its principal stars will no longer be regular cast members. Can CW's young Superman drama survive without Lana and Lex?

According to TV Guide, two original cast members - Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) opted not to renew their 7-year contracts and return as series regulars next year, but are open to several guest starring appearances, the details of which are being negotiated.

The producers may have expected this development as most marketing efforts this season focused on two more recent female cast members who play crucial characters on the show - Erica Durance, who came on board in season 4 as Lois Lane, and Laura Vandervoort, who joined the show this year as Supergirl.

A long-time regular male cast member is expected to be killed off for good in the first of 5 post-strike episodes, that airs on Thursday, April 17. Could it be John Glover's psychopath Lionel Luthor who turns evil all over again? The actor was rumored to be contracted for season eight, but anything is possible.

In its 7th year, "Smallville" is CW's top-rated scripted drama averaging 3.86 million viewers per week. Last season the show averaged 3.98 million viewers. The show's 7th season finale airs on May 15.

  1. Your question about whether it can survive without Kreuk and Rosenbaum is irrelevant because the 8th season is going to be the last anyway. I think this is excellent news, actually, because I want to see lots more Lois. Lots!!

  2. Being the CW's top show, I don't see why they wouldn't be interested in seeing 'Smallville' run for 9 years. No matter how improbable it may seem at this point. As for Kreuk and Rosenbaum, I also don't care - as long as they keep hot hunkage coming in.

  3. Yeah, more Lois and Clois, that's all I want, lol...
    But I'm gonna miss Michael...
And don't forget Allison...She also might not come back as a regular...

  4. I think this is very sad. No one can replace Lana in Smallville. No one can have a stronger chemistry than Lana and Clark. I will not watch the show without Lana!!!!

  5. I cannot stand Lana, nothing against Kristin I just think that the character is an idiot and I'm stoked to see her go.

Plus, Lois is so much better anyway...

  6. I DON'T WANT KRISTIN TO LEAVE I LOVE HER SHE'S BEAUTIFUL AND IF SHE GOES I WILL BE VERY SAD I WOULD RATHER HAVE CHLOE AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE BUT NOT LANA PLEASE LANA DON'T GO:(

  7. Nothing personal against Kristin, but they frankly have exhausted about everything they can do with the characters of Lana and Clark. How much more soulful staring at each other can we take?

We all know Clark ends up with Lois. Let's go down that path now!

  8. Lois is a big fat phony, too middle aged with huge silicone implants, get her out of my TV set. I am not watching Smallville without Lana or Lex. Good bye

  9. There is no way the show will be ok without Kristin Kreuk, Kristin is Lana! and will always be!

  10. I don't like lois lane. I prefer lana and clark then lois and clark. If there's no LANA i WOn't watch Smallville anymore. What's the point if u remove lana. Since d beggining u always make lana and clark as a perfect couple. And all the audiance hope that one day lana will be the only couple for clark and will be together in smallville. And about lois lane. Don't like her since the first time she appear on the 4th seasons. The chemistry which is more suitable is lana and clark. not lois and clark. except on the Movie of Superman.

  11. You people forget, Superman(Clark) ends up with Lois not Lana, Frankly i am tired of the Lana drama. I am glad to see the character leave, but how can the show survive without Clark's nemesis Lex, he takes up too much of the show. He should not go.

  12. I think we should just wait and see how they work the show. They had to end Lana and Clark's relationship at some point. All great things must come to an end at some point. There is other ememies of Superman then just Lex Luthor. He is just one of the bigger ones. I am not going to judge a show untill I see what going to happen. I am not going to stop watching Smallville unless it just does not work any more.

  14. I hate that they are taking Lex and Lana out of the show.. Clark and Lana are so perfect together.. I mean I know that Superman ends up with Lois but what kind of Superman is this leading to if you take you Lex.. If they are going to take Lex out they might as well change to a different plot and have Clark end up with Lana.. and what is this about introducing Doomsday.. The only villein to kill Superman.. They might as well finish Superman off right now.. I don't have anything against Erica Durance , love her as an actress but the way they wrote Lois in Smallville makes me want to *gag*..

    CLANA always.. =D

I'll miss Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk.. =(

  15. Kristin Kruek is awful and I am so happy I don't have to deal with her one-note acting anymore - the show is improved without her. Lex is missed.
Ugh the whole Lana Lang story line was stupid from day one

  16. I'm sad to see them go. I was a huge Lexana fan && now they're both gone. I still love Clana too, but I cannot stand Clois. I dislike Chlark too, but I'd much rather see that than Clois as well. Nothing against Erica Durance, but her character has been butchered into some sort of bully/obsessive/moronic twit. I know Clark end up w/ Lois, but this isn't Superman. This is Smallville.

  17. I love the show. Frankly, I watch the show just to see Kristin Kreuk. I have been a Superman fan for 50 years and this new version has been the best ever. Even without Kristin I will still watch. Just a note .... I consider Kristin Kreuk the most beautiful woman on television or the movies. But still, the show will go on as long as "Clark" continues. He really is Superman and his portrayal has been perfect.

  18. I dont think that Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum should have left, Because she is a very talented actress and she played the part well. And Lex is so good and no one could ever fill his shoes.. and he is so funny!

  19. Assisto a série e realmente ficou desgastante a relação de Clark e Lana, chega a ser muito melodramático. Lex, em minha opinião é o melhor ator da série. Não imagino Smallville sem ele. Mais não deixarei de assistir por causa disso.

  20. Even though Lana's character was brilliant in the begining, it's time for her to leave the show, they squeezed all they could out of the Clark+Lana relationship. Every1 knows that Lois & Clark are meant to be 2gether and u cant change what has already been made. I am looking forward to watching there relationship grow. As for Lex's character i<3him & don't know how they are going to find an replacement Lex that was as good as Micheal, but the doomsday character should be interesting. After all in the real Superman he successfully killed Clark Kent. i LOVE Superman and this show, and I will continue watching it. Its an addiction!

  21. It can survive but it will be messed up. I will miss Lana and Lex. How sad, I love SMALLVILLE but since Lana will not be there im not sure if I will still be a fan. If any SMALLVILLE producer/ director red this I hope there will be more seasons and Lana and Lex will be there. Dont really like Lois, shes not good for Clark. Hope smallville will last long, will miss Smallville if its only up to 8th season :(

  23. i am going to miss lana and lex i thought by some miracle lana and lex would get back together and start doing good things and help clark in his hero mearsures ad lois and clark would end up together chole and jimmy make a wonderful couple i reallly had a hard time adjusting to lionel, clark's mom and dad leaving the show but i got used to it oliver is a good replacement for some of the departures i love this show and if people will hang in there and give the writers a chanche i think the show will make it, charters came and left ee.r. and look how long it lasted. i think they should have kept that show on come on smallvillle fans let's keep this going i just wished they had left it on thrusrday with supernatural that was the only day of the week i did not miss a show and of course i have the entire collection i have a family of 8 that watch it over and over again.at least give it a chance watch it before you make up your mind we need more shows like this we have way too many actors aand actress out of work cause of reality shows i love the singing competitions but the rest suck.

  25. I love smallville just as long as Tom Welling doesnt go anywhere, hell it can run for 15 seasons and id still love it...

  26. I preferred the 2nd Superman movie when I think he went back home and took up with Lana after Lois.
Anyway, this was my preferred romance. The Lana character is just nicer than Lois.
As far as Smallville is concerned than it is hard to warm to Lois when Kristin playing the role of Lana and being so aesthetically pleasing to the eye is hard to put aside for a lass as plain as Lois.
