TV Ratings: Thanksgiving (11/22/07)

Thanksgiving ratings are out and it appears those series lows for the Alphabet network on Wednesday night were indeed holiday-related as ABC's Thursday night line-up also did well below its season-average with blockbuster "Grey's Anatomy" getting some of the worst ratings in its 3-and-a-half-year history.

Unfortunately a weakened "Grey's Anatomy" also meant worse ratings for its lead-out show, the 2nd season premiere of "October Road." The show's initial audience of 7.33 million (inflated by Grey's overrun) quickly fell to 5.40 million in the second half hour.

Last fall, "Grey's Anatomy" (which was averaging 21-23 million viewers at the time) posted a disappointing 18.5 million viewers on Thanksgiving, while its lead-in "Ugly Betty" (which was averaging 12-13 million) scored only 8.5 million. This year the results are even worse.

You would think ABC would learn their lesson, especially when the writers' strike is still on. Oh, well. Maybe next year.
