"Dirty Sexy Money" Pilot Changes (VIDEO)
Last month the production on ABC's new sudser "Dirty Sexy Money" was shut down for a week in order to undergo "fine-tuning." ABC has now posted a new version of a previously released Darling family feud scene in which Jill Clayburgh, who plays the family matriarch, breaks a vase. Take a look at both versions of the scene and judge for yourself if the producers made the right changes.
In the new clip, the set and the clothes appear much lighter and casual than in the original scene and although the dialogue hasn't undergone dramatic changes, the actors seem to be saying their lines in a more low-key manner, with a little less camp in their tone.
After she breaks the vase, instead of walking away with her vodka and saying "I swear to God... sometimes you children... make... me... sick," mama Darling remains where she is and sets her foot down about her husband's decision to hire Nick George (Peter Krause) as the new family lawyer.
Although the criticism has been generally positive, there have been voices (and I am sure focus groups as well) that have found the characters on this show a little too cartoonish. I would suspect the producers are trying to make the Darlings more relatable, but I'm not sure the new scene is better.
The original scene was filmed in March.

I gotta say, the newer scene improved dramatically. It's more intense. More dignified. I do agree the original was a little more campier. I like the new take on the same scene. Whoever wanted this change did a good job changing it. The subdued tone speaks louder, and you get to hear everyone speak their lines rather than everyone trying to overtalk each other in the original.
