"Desperate" Telenovelas

"Desperate Housewives" was named #1 TV series in the world (taking away that honor from last year's winner "CSI: Miami") at the Monte Carlo TV Festival earlier this year. The show is syndicated to a worldwide audience of over 120 million people in 200 countries. Some markets, however, have developed their own local adaptation of the "Desperate" brand. Take a sneak peek, they'll crack you up.

As many as four South American of the show began production in early 2006 in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador under license agreement with the Walt Disney Co. The last two productions merged, leaving 3 Latin versions of the show. A second US version in Spanish language is being developed for the Univision network. Production began last month.

The first to air in 2006 was the Argentinian version entitled "Amas De Casa Desperadas." The show became a hit and a second season was ordered. The Colombian/Ecuadorian version of the same title began in May 2007 and airs 5 times per week. The Brazilian version "Donas De Casa Desperadas" is currently in production and will launch this month.

Most of the characters have different names except for Wisteria Lane's resident Latino character Carlos Solis. His ex-wife Gabrielle is Gabriela Solis, Lynette Scavo is Lía Salgari, Bree Van de Kamp is Vera Sherer, Susan Mayer is Susana Martini and Edie Britt is Carla Otegui. Also, Mike became Miguel, Paul became Pablo, Rex became Ricardo and sexy gardener John became sexy gardener Juan.

I didn't watch "Donas de casa desesperadas", but people say it was kinda awful. Apparently, Disney didn't allow them change a single word from the original script. It looks like it's the same thing, but only with less talented cast. There are another bizarre things like the thing they hired argetines to play the "Bree's" kids and now they have to dub them!

At least is what i read in a blog. I'm gonna watch next week, but i'm not to hopeful. I don't like the network.
