TV Ratings: Farewell to "Jericho"

The Eye network's post-apocalypse drama "Jericho" ended its first and what now may be the only season last night with 7,77 million viewers losing almost 4 million since the September premiere. The drama also finished 4th in the 18-49 demo.

The "American Idol" results telecast was once again stronger than the performance showdown on Tuesday, pulling in 27,43 million viewers, more than all competing networks combined. Its lead-in "Bones" scored a solid 10,02 million.

ABC replaced its low-rated "Lost" encores at 9 p.m. with repeats of "According to Jim" and "George Lopez," getting a 400,000-viewer bump to 4,5 million.

An all-new episode of "LOST" won the 10 p.m. hour in the 18-49 demo, but "CSI: NY" ruled the roost in total viewers (12,69 vs. 11,89 million).

Love this site!

If indeed Jericho doesn't get a second season (during the Paley Fest, the cast were hopefully optimistic), it'd be a shame. It was a solid drama with great heart.

Lost freaking rocked last night. ABC sucks for putting it on so late.

Jericho is about where Invasion was last season, isn't it? I doubt we'll see Jericho on the fall lineup.

Networks want ratings for their programing, and usually, they get rid of freshman shows that aren't bringing in good ratings. Jericho's ratings are really not that good. Perhaps if it was a show with multiple seasons under its belt, and held a firm 7 million audience, it might stick around, but it is a new show that shed millions of viewers since its premiere. Rarely do shows like that see a second season.

Stranger things have happened on network television, so I guess there is still a small chance for "Jericho" to return, especially since that's one of the few CBS shows that creates any buzz in the media (how often do you see articles about CBS shows?).

Still, less than 8 million viewers and a poor 18-49 rating is unacceptable for the #1 network like CBS, especially if they have a good pilot to replace it.

While I admit that Jericho COULD be renewed, I don't see it. The very nature of the show doesn't fit with CBS's many crime shows which dominate almost all of its current dramas. Plus, if Jericho dropped so much within one season, CBS might not want to risk keeping it.
