"Smallville" Hottie To Play Flash Gordon
The Sci-Fi Channel has announced that actor Eric Johnson best known for his role as Lana Lang's boyfriend Whitney Fordman in the first season of The CW's "Smallville" (then on The WB) has been tapped to star in a new series about classic comic hero Flash Gordon.
The cable network will begin production on the 22-episode series about the comic strip-inspired adventures of the titular hero and fellow space travelers Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkovon on May 1. The contemporary take on the popular comic strip franchise is slated for an August premiere.

He really got dissed by the fans so badly, the creators had to let this actor go. It was so sad too to see him leave the show after only being a regular for one season on Smallville. Glad to see him back on the small screen again.

Really? Is that what happened? Wow. I wasn't following TV related news so much at the time, I just remember I was sorry to see him go.
He was the very first in the long link of hunks who got important regular or not that important 'freak-of-the-week' kind of roles and flaunted their enviable looks next to Smallville's resident hunk Tom Welling (Jensen Ackles, Justin Hartley, etc.)
No wonder I love that show. :)
Smallville is a great guilty pleasure show. Total hunkages. :D
But yeah, he was ousted because of bad fandom for the show against his character. He was supposed to come back for season 2, but they decided against it. It was so sad too because that really hurt the actor and he was so bummed by the decision.
