NBC Orders More "Lights" Scripts
NBC is being very cautious about renewing its on-the-bubble shows. Following psychic crime series "Medium", Texas-set drama "Friday Night Lights" has also received an additional 6-episode script order, a good sign for the show's future.
The critically-praised but low rated series has struggled in its Wednesday at 8 timeslot, following similar troubles in its original timeslot on Tuesday nights last fall.
But this gem of a show is without any doubt one of the best dramas on television today, and it has generated not only a small but loyal following, but also a strong support at the network itself which is said to really like the show very much.
The final decision may depend on the strength of those scripts and what direction the writers take for a second season.
Also, if the network is happy with many of the ordered pilots, it may prove to be a challenge to find a spot on the schedule for this outstanding series.
Nevertheless, for the time being, the "Lights" seem to be shining brighter.
The first season finale of "Friday Night Lights" airs on Wednesday night at 8/7c on NBC.
