Ugly Betty #117: "Don't Ask, Don't Tell": Homophobia Is One Ugly Bitch

A slam dunk of an episode of ABC's "Ugly Betty" gave the hilarious, but normally one-dimensional Marc substance, while shaving off his beard following a Suarez family dinner outing extravaganza with the fabulous Patti LuPone guest starring as a cat-show obsessed bitch of a mother.

The episode may have hit home for those viewers who had not been blessed with loving or understanding parents, but that is the beauty of "Ugly Betty" - dissecting the cold hardships of real life coated in shiny candy wrapper of production values that never fail to give me that warm feeling in my heart.

How noble and unexpected of, as Betty so gently put it, "sparkly" Marc to defend the Suarez family when his mother Mrs. Wiener unleashed a prejudice-filled tirade. And yes, Marc, you are freakin' fabulous, so don't you shed any tears over the woman who is immoral enough to abandon her own child.

Elsewhere, I immensely enjoyed the zingers-filled clash between Wilhelmina and Claire
at the hospital. Kudos to writers for coming up with a vulnerable yet strong character so brilliantly portrayed by Judith Light, possibly the only woman who can give Willy a run for her money.

Finally, although I say Rebecca Romijn has been a wonderful addition to the cast and I do hope the writers keep her on the show as long as possible, I am starting to get confused about her sexuality.

They seem to indicate Alex was quite a womanizer. Alexis, however is trying to date men. Call me ignorant, but I didn't know that changing one's gender automatically changes their sexual orientation.

I LOVE him... So glad he was finally added as a "regular" as he is the show for me. Super talented and I love his chemistry with Willie and Amanda.

re Alex, he could have done the womaniser thing to keep his father off his back while he worked out his plot. also he was constantly in competition with daniel so that could have contributed to it.

that's right, debi. that sounds like a good explanation. besides, we do know very little about the Meade family before the ski accident.
