LOST Spoilers: Enter Patchy a.k.a. Mikhail Bakunin

Following a light reunion episode of ABC's "LOST" last week, the fans are in for a doozy on Wednesday, March 7. In the Sayid-centric episode "Enter 77" the viewers will finally learn about the connection between the Others and the mysterious organization the Dharma Initiative as the character who had been knows simply as "Patchy" returns to the ABC series.

Back in November, when Locke, Sayid, Desmond, Nikki and Paulo visited the Pearl Station and rewired a live video surveillance feed to a monitor, a man wearing an eye-patch briefly appeared looking directly at the camera and put his hand over the camera lens, before the signal from the camera was lost and Locke whimsically said, "I guess he'll be expecting us."

"LOST" producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof both stated that Patchy will become a very prominent character on the show and a press release for the episode "Enter 77" first revealed his full name to be Mikhail Bakunin.

In real life, Mikhail Bakunin was a well-known Russian revolutionary and anarchist philosopher. He "rejected governing systems in every name and shape", every authority figure, including God, or a sovereign. By extension, he rejected the notions of a "privileged class".

This is not the first time the show's creative team have named certain characters after influential figures in the history of philosophy (John Locke, Edmund Burke, David Hume, etc.) with a particularly heavy emphasis on eighteenth-century thinkers.




The character will be played by Venezuela-born actor Andrew Divoff who is known for playing villains on television as well as the big screen. The actor is fluent in 9 languages including Romanian, Catalan and Russian. His previous credits include "The Unit," "Alias," "JAG," "Walker, Texas Ranger" and "The A-Team."
