What an outstanding, mythology-shaking and riveting hour of "LOST"! Poor, gullible and battered John Locke flashes back to the day he got into his wheelchair in a tragic event involving his disgustingly evil father Anthony Cooper. The episode climaxes with a genuinely chilling cliffhanger.
The man who scammed Locke out of his kidney and manipulated him into ripping off the mob sank to the very bottom as he pushed his son out of the window from the 8th floor of a skyrise. I no longer get shocked very easily, but this well-acted and truly believable display of pure evil was simply terrifying.
The producers have been promising for months to explain how Locke got into his wheelchair and boy, was that scene worth the wait or what?!
Elsewhere, Kate learns Jack made a pact with the Others securing a one-way ticket off the island explaining his strange friendly behavior. If anyone had any doubts about the strength of her feelings for Jack, this episode should have put those to rest.
Ben's and Locke's brilliant game of manipulation ended with Locke supposedly getting his way and blowing up the submarine, The Others' only remaining connection to the outside world.
The livid glare Jack gave to Locke after the explosion is an indication of the ongoing rivalry between the two men that may get a lot more unpleasant in the coming weeks.
The French woman finally saw her adult daughter Alex in a short yet stunning emotional scene. Was she afraid to approach her?
Finally, most of us had anticipated what Ben would uncover in his "magic box", but despite that chills ran down my spine when I saw Anthony Cooper bound and gagged in front of his shocked son.
Was the "magic box" a metaphor for the island's astonishing power to materialize people's thoughts (Kate's horse, Hugo's imaginary friend, Jack's father) or was that really Anthony Cooper? If so, how the hell did he get there?
As ever, even though we got some of the answers, the questions keep popping up.
Why was the submarine the only way to get off the island? Why can't a simple boat do? Why is Ben not recovering the way John Locke did? Was John Locke the man falling outside Hurley's financial advisor's building in season 1 flashback?
This is TELEVISIONISTA
Questions are Lost's way of answering things. I'm pretty sure the next podcast will clear up the is John the one falling in Hurley's flashback thing.
ReplyDeleteI read spoilers, so I knew what was going to happen. I think that Anthony Cooper is really there, perhaps the others had him for another reason. The box is probably just a metaphor for the room Cooper was in or something. ALSO, if Cooper really is on the island, it makes nother theory more than likely. "Is the man who conned Locke many times, the same man that Sawyer has been after for years, the REAL Mr. Sawyer?" Well, if Cooper is on the island, it may be true. All I know is, don't expect them to pick up on this story for 5 episodes, they are planning to save this storyline's consequences for the late season episodes.
Thanks for the awesome review Justin! It was my favorite episode of the season even though we keep sinking in the ratings.
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot about the guy falling down in front of Hurley! Thanks for the reminder.
And yes, it gave me chills to see his SOB dad in the room, hope he gets what is coming to him!
Next week someone is supposed to come out of the closet ;) I think it is Tom, and he has a thing for Jack!!!
