ABC Bloated "Grey's Anatomy" Ferry Boat Disaster
Are you among those fans of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" who thought the highly touted February sweeps ferry boat fire three-episode arc was drown out and fell flat? The creators and producers of the drama may actually go along with that.
ABC promised the arc would top last year's post-Superbowl bomb episode that catapulted the medical drama into Nielsen stratosphere and made it the highest rated scripted series in America.
According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, inside sources on the set reveal Shonda Rhimes and her team originally conceived the story line as a single episode.
When ABC executives saw the proposed budget for the stunt, they said they would only greenlight the production if Shonda rewrote the script and extended it into as many as three episodes.
Although the stunt generated enormous buzz and strong ratings (mainly though because the writers toyed with the core character Meredith Grey's life), many of the fans will remember the arc as the time when their beloved drama tried too hard and failed.

IMO, it was too early to jump the shark like they did. Its like they need to shock more and more in order to keep the momentum going. What ever happened to good storylines and solid acting instead of stunts?
i agree, this was too much and it turned out really corny (especially the 3rd episode- some kind of miracle)
I loved the episode.
