This is truly discouraging. Last night ABC aired one of the most brilliant episodes of "LOST" in the show's three-year history, and yet it recorded series-low for the drama as over two million people abandoned "LOST" since last week's season opener (12,77 million people tuned in).
One could of course expect that the drama would spring a leak as viewing levels for a season opener are usually higher, and given the three-month hiatus last week's episode did feel like a season premiere. More on that in an upcoming review of last night's episode. On to other ratings news.
Although Mediaweek's TV ratings specialist Marc Berman branded last night's episode of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" a loser, the drama actually grew over a million viewers since its last telecast hitting a series high with 7,43 million viewers (excluding that special Monday night airing back in October).
American Idol which picked its Top-24 finalists was again the most watched show of the evening with 28,54 million viewers. Despite the fact that Wednesday night airings now attract less than 30 million viewers, the show remains a gigantic and invincible monster hit of a reality contest.
FOX's "Bones" may have benefited from an American Idol pre-tune-in scoring 12,35 million viewers, now only hundreds of thousands of viewers behind "LOST". meanwhile, "Criminal Minds" scored less than 16 million viewers returning to its pre-Super Bowl levels.
I just realized over three million more people tuned into "Criminal Minds" than "LOST". What has this world come to?
This is TELEVISIONISTA
Hey Justin, I guess we are both bummed by the ratings of Lost, I never thought it would tumble under 13 million. The only consolation really is that CSI:NY was under 15 million (it also dropped) and Criminal Minds like you said has gone back to 15 million (pre Superbowl).
ReplyDeleteLast night's episode and the first episode were the most creatively rich episodes since early in the second season. It is indeed a shame that ABC with its scheduling, its lame comedies and its Daybreak fiasco has made Wednesday night unwatchable, Lost or otherwise.
What are they going to do now? If they change the time now, they will look desperate (which they are probably) and it would get killed even worse than if they left it at 9pm in the first place (my guess is it would still have done 14 million), my advice is just to leave well enough alone and leave it at 10pm and let the chips fall now and hopefully there will be a base of 12 million viewers.
Well Rolland I think ABC should do something I mean it was a great episode (I don't if it was the best ) and the ratings are down.I don't know if it is a good idea but why not try another hour or even move Lost to another day of the week.
ReplyDeleteAnyways with this ratings and this network I'm afraid for season 4.
I think that due to Valentine's Day, the snowstorms, and the encore of "Not In Portland" kinda threw the ratings off. Maybe people, they still havnt gotten it hammered in that Lost is on a new time, tuned in at 9, saw a rerun, and tuned out. I am hoping that the next episode will draw in more people, Lost can still bounce back. The fact that Criminal Minds, and CSI both dropped, may indicate that it was just a bad night to be on TV. HOPEFULLY, the episode that is supposed to answer 3 major questions next week, will pick up a few million viewers.
ReplyDeleteThanks cristi and jj for your input. Initially I thought that it was a good idea to move Lost out of AI's way. But I think that the hiatus in addition to the time change was too much to expect viewers to accept. I think these complaints about no answers may contribute, but to a lesser degree. It all reminds me a little too much of Commander in Chief, which was a top 15 hit for ABC for the first part of the season, then they changed writers and played games with the schedule and it started bombing in the ratings. What a shame, I just hope this doesn't happen to Lost. ABC SHOULD be worried.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about Commander_in_chief was, it just didnt have it in the end. It was decent in the beginning, but it just lost its flare. I feel the same thing happening with Brothers and Sisters.(I find myself bored watching it, Daytime Soaps seem to intrest me more) Lost is still good, last night's "Flashes before your Eyes" proved it. So I think that people just arnt patient anymore. They have the attention span of a flee and Lost is just beyond their comprehention.
