Should Isaiah Washington Be Fired?
I was going to respond to your question, Roland, in the comments section of an earlier post where you had asked me about my own opinion regarding the possible termination of employment of Isaiah Washington on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy", but I realized it may be more appropriate to do so in a separate post.
For some reason, I always forget that this is a blog, my blog, and I am entitled to expressing my own opinion. That's the beauty of having a blog. Nevertheless, I usually end up simply reporting the news. Well, I do promise to improve. :)
But, I'm digressing. Let me put it this way:
I was personally offended by Isaiah's use of the F-word and I do not accept his apology.
I absolutely agree with you, Roland, that T.R. Knight (or even the show's #1 male star Patrick Dempsey) would have been instantly fired had they used the N-word to label Washington, so I think it is very important for ABC, Shonda Rhimes and everyone involved to make a clear statement that there will be no double standards about hate speech.
It is wrong and perpetrators have to be punished with no exceptions.
Therefore, yes, I think Isaiah Washington should be fired, and he should be fired instantly, the way Kirstin Veitch of E! Online had described it in her blog.
According to TV Guide, it changes from day to day whether or not Isaiah will be fired or not.
On Monday, a Chicago-based daily newspaper cited an anonymous on-set source who claimed Isaiah may have barely salvaged his job.
Today, however, TV Guide claims ABC is more leaning towards firing.
I do hope ABC will find decency to make that decision as soon as possible, because their disappointing inability to act more swiftly is becoming highly irritating.
Wow thanks Justin, I didn't expect to be mentioned (I'm famous! LOL)
ReplyDeleteI think ABC is kinda chicken shit for not acting quickly, because it is basically their biggest hit show, and they don't want to upset the apple cart. I bet they are biding their time to see if this blows over. I didn't know that Preston Burke had a huge storyline coming up but its easy enough to kill off the character storyline wise (car accident, job offer somewhere else, etc). GA is one of my favorite shows, but his character is expendible IMHO. It'll be interesting how it develops. I hope that you develop a greater following in the future for your blog, it's something I enjoy reading every day!
Well, i don't particulary care for his character on GA.. and now with all this crap surrounding him, i personaly wouldn't mind to see him removed from the show...But i do know loads want to keep the character himself on...so i'd say.. recast (which i personally hate, no matter the show).... Or make his character come out.....or something... like a personel mini hell for the actor..
ReplyDeleteAnyhow i am annoyed by his comment (especially the one at the GG) and have to say T.R handled himself as a true trouper...
I hope it ends soon...all this negativity...
