DVD Beats VCR

Nielsen has released a new study that says there are now more DVD players than VCRs in the US.

According to the findings, DVD penetration has gone up 6 percent to 81,2% (compared to last year). VCR penetration has gone down 4,5 percent to 76,5%.

When Nielsen first started measuring DVD vs VCR penetration, back in 1999, only 6,7% of households in the US owned a DVD player as opposed to 88,6% that owned a VCR.

Here are also the stats for other technologies:

Cable: 63,5% (up 2,1%)
Satellite: 26,5% (up 1,9%)
Internet: 68,5% (up 0,6%)
PC: 73,4% (down 0,8%)
Cell phones: 75,2% (up 1,9%)
PDA: 16% (up 0,6%)
MP3 players: 26,7% (up whopping 58%!)
